When you prefer USA made products, you support American manufacturing, American jobs, and American values. This improves the country’s long term economic independence, lowering our reliance on countries who do not share our values or laws.
The raw materials, refinement, preparation and assembly sometimes involves multiple countries in some way or another. This leads to grey areas like being partially USA made or “assembled” in the USA.
The FTC regulates the term “made in USA”, defining it as a product where all significant parts are of US origin and all significant processing is done in the US. I am limiting this list to products that appear to meet the strict FTC standard.
I am also limiting it to strength equipment and conditioning / Crossfit equipment, in line with the overall focus of Two Rep Cave. No apparel, supplements, or anything else that’s loosely “fitness” related.

I’m just getting to this. On the products I clicked through I don’t see anything USA made among the Anderson/KLA brand stuff? I see they are a dealer for some other brands.
I would not trust Rage Fitness. They have the same exact picture and specs for two squat racks, one of which is supposedly made in the USA for $400, the other imported on sale for $179 (though the click-through image shows a price of $99). The whole things seems shady to me.
I see what you mean. Their parent company Gibson Athletic has been around for 40 years, so they’re pretty well established and I would guess are legitimately separating the USA and China models. There should at least be a “made in” sticker on the rack itself. Anyway, I don’t think it’s that great of a deal for a USA-made 2×2 squat rack.
Finally got myself a half rack, which is more than enough for my needs (sure thing: it’s a tough-as-nails one), now i only need a utility bench [flat] to go with it. I like anything that’s over-built and as tough as it gets – which for a basic flat bench doesn’t make much sense, but still -.
Any suggestions? The Legend Fitness utility looks nice. So do some by Power Lift.

The Rogue Monster series and Sorinex racks are pretty similar. Some differences in features if you look closely. Sorinex is a little more expensive, while Rogue actually might have higher resale value with better name recognition in the consumer market. Any reason you can find to choose one or the other might make sense.
I actually prefer the Sorinex Base Camp rack just because its pull up attachments are better in my opinion.
But i must say Rogue’s worldwide brand recognition is a winning ticket for me! Not to mention that Rogue products can be obtained in Europe as well (where i am based) so, i guess i’ll be purchasing a Monster rack pretty soon… ;-)

Where are Free Motion Treadmills made? Where are Precor Treadmills made? Does anyone know
Precor makes their functional trainer in Washington state confirmed from rep just now.
“WOODINVILLE, WA – Precor has opened and begun operations at its new facility in Guilford County, North Carolina, near Greensboro. The plant, which will produce Precor strength products, replaces a smaller facility in Valencia, CA.”
Ok, I’ll contact Precor if the rep is saying that. That press release you quoted is from 2010. If anything is fully USA made they’re doing a very good job of hiding the fact. It’s the kind of thing a company would normally plaster on every page to triple their business.
That’s true and my emails and chats were answered honestly I hope confirm products made here in the USA. I have a Precor Elliptical trainer for cardio and it’s great so far. But after trying out a Precor FTS cable gym today and using an expensive Precor adjustable bench that retails for $1200 just for the bench and finding a made in China tag on the expensive bench I was really upset! Hammer Strength and Legend Fitness make their high end products still in America at least. But it will cost me 10-30k for a complete American made gym with full set of barbells, plates, dumbells, benches and a few core training machines and power rack. Inflation is really bad now.

I bought one for my home gym as well as some dumb bells and adjustable Hammer Strength bench. Not cheap but quality. Before the 24 hour fitness gyms went bankrupt and closed down most in my area of northern California, I loved the Hammer Strength gear the most. Plus I refuse to wear a face diaper to exercise! Now to save up for a few expensive USA made gym machines and more weights and bars!

Spoke with Life Fitness guy and he says the commercial high end gym are USA made including Hammer Strength machines, Hammer Strength barbells, plates and dumbells. Cheaper stuff made overseas.

Bummer! One would think for the high prices of these gyms that they would be made in the USA! Thanks again. I’m thinking of just going old skool with Irongrip barbells and dumbbells with bench and power cage rack as these are made in the USA still I think. I will add that American Barbell’s premium Series 1 dumbbells are US patented and made in the US.
In speaking with one of their reps they mentioned they do use a German urethane on their series 1 dumbbells, so I suppose that could disqualify them from this list depending how stickler we are with American Made with mostly American materials vs. American Made and 100% American Materials. If going by the latter, then I imagine this list would dwindle a bit.
The American Barbell rep further mentioned their series IV dumbbells are made in China, though in a facility they owned and managed. Someone else mentioned this in another post. If they own and manage it, then it seems like they are able to at least maintain better quality control for their products and branding for whatever they do produce overseas while keeping it at a more affordable price to reach the broader group of fitness enthusiasts. Just think of businesses like REP, Rogue, and many others that outsource a lot of products from manufacturers in China that produce the same product, sold across dozens of companies, for various prices.
Everything here should be 100% USA made. Raw materials can come from another country, as many do, but the important thing is where significant processing is done to create the parts, and Germany making the urethane would disqualify it. That’s still pretty good though.
American Barbell owning the Chinese factory I can imagine does help with quality, but that wouldn’t make it USA made, because who owns the factory doesn’t matter if the factory isn’t in the US. It’s geographical.
Indeed. I’m looking at Iron Grip dumbells and barbells, Legend Fitness and Rogue equipment for American made gear. It will cost me over 10k for a full setup but last forever and no need to drive to a gym or wear a face diaper while working out and no waiting for the bench. I was a 24 hr fitness member for years before they shutdown and like the Irongrip stuff a lot.

They’ve been around a few years. All imported. From the little I’ve read their stuff is decent, and they have really good packaging. The power rack is very lightweight.
Dynamic Fitness and Strength out of Eau Claire Wisconsin Most everything with their name on it in their online store is made by them In Wisconsin. They are mostly a manufacturer that aims to design and equip gyms, not really into retail yet.

Nobody mentioned PowerBlocks. Some of them are still made here, like their Elite series. My big original ones were made in the USA. But I also have the new small Sport24 units for therapy, and those definitely came from China. So it seems to vary by product.
VitaVibe Stall Bars. This is something our great, great grandfathers already knew (like they knew about cast iron Oly weights), and there was probably a set of these installed on the Titanic. If you order a “proudly made in the USA” RESTORE Series “Schroth Method” unit with flat-faced rungs, the factory will generously allow you to order it with three extra-long flat-faced rungs. I got mine 11″ longer than normal. Install the three extra-long rungs at the #1, #8, and #15 positions, and you have high/med/low anchor-points for elastics w/ shoulder-rows, arm raises, and all kinds of other bodyweight stuff. Has a pull-up bar too.

Every few months when I get to updating this page (I have other site updates regularly in the queue) I add the suggestions that qualify, but yeah, the above list at first glance looks like it has several that don’t. Most US fitness equipment companies have their stuff made and labeled by a foreign factory and shipped here by the container load. Even if they say something like “All our products are made here in Lincoln, NE” that actually may be a red flag if they avoid advertising “made in USA”, a phrase which has has stricter legal requirements.

The name “NOHrD” literally means “Made in Germany” to them and they even explain the etymology of the name on that page. If I were to guess, it wouldn’t surprise me if their arrow logo indicates the north part of Germany.
Now, big picture, it looks like they’ve diversified manufacturing operations (probably because North America has always been famous for its trees) and they’re making the WaterRower here in the US… which is awesome. Maybe I’ll go buy one. I sold my C2 erg years ago, and I’ve kinda been missing it lately. This conversation has been making me think about the benefits of rowing, and these days I’d be into the silence of a water-based erg.

Mike at MicroGainz is fantastic. His company’s laser-cutting quality is superb, and I believe it’s all made right there in Pennsylvania (or certainly most of it). I just got a box full of US-made precision steel Oly weights last week, and they’re great.

I ordered a pair of (honestly, very nice) 35lb urethane bumpers, and they arrived today. They say “VULCAN USA” in huge letters. However, their cardboard boxes revealed the truth in small print: “Made in China.”
Right, any company can put USA in their name. Means nothing.
That’s what makes it even harder to find real American made products. I search for new plant openings in the USA by companies that sell equipment. I saw that Hammer Strength, Cybex and Precor have opened factories recently for their higher end gym equipment. You pay more but better quality.

I think only the really high end commmercial expensive equipment by Life Fitness is made in the USA like Cybex and Hammer Strength. That’s why you have to pay 5k for a USA machine versus 2k for a China made one!

Fray Fitness is 100% Chinese made. I emailed them about their recent price gouging and they responded with the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. They made fun of me, called me stupid, crazy, and a loser for accusing them of price gouging even though their half rack increased from 400 to 685 in the matter of a few months. So yes CHINESE made and they’re straight up mean when you call them out
same with Iron Master, Inspire, and Force USA that act like American made companies but reality is they are shell corporations that make in China. They were at least polite when asked where they manufacture products. Looks like it comes down to only three companies: Hammer Strength, Legend Fitness, and Iron Grip for American made gym and weights for my needs. Cost is a little bit more but quality is higher and better service.
I emailed REP because of conflicting info I was receiving about the origin of where the equipment is manufactured and it states, “All of their equipment is manufactured in China”. I attached the email. So whether that matters to people (does to me sorta) just thought I’d share.
Texas Strength Systems out of San Antonio. They make some of the new Starting Strength Equipment.
Pure-Strength they make the Slim Gym and are out of Georgia. Currently they are updating their website,but can be reached through Facebook Messenger. They were very helpful and responsive.

Any idea if Fray Fitness is Made in USA? I see that they are based in TN, but doesn’t say anything about where the product is made.
Unless they say their products are made in the USA, it’s generally a safe bet that they aren’t. It’s such a huge marketing benefit that it would be crazy not to use the fact.

Rep Fitness is getting their stuff shipped from China, hence why their website has listings of racks and barbells having bi-monthly or monthly Restock as they are waiting for the shipments to come in. It sounds like their quality since the virus has gone downhill. Many years ago I bought an adjustable weight bench from them that was half the price of Rogue and it is solid. Too bad

American Barbell – Made in China
I made a purchase from the above company after I was assured that the items were not made in China. However, when I received the products( 2 sets of dumbbells and one adjustable bench – over $1,300), they were proudly made in China. The reply I received is that they “own” their Chinese factory and therefore they did not purchase anything from the Chinese. They did not want to take back the product without a 20% restocking fee, even though I agreed to pay shipping both ways (they actually just stopped replying to me). Please keep this in mind when considering your purchase, as I felt completely defrauded.
Sorry to hear about that. I don’t know about that specific case, but in general I guess it depends on the wording they use. Any company with marketing sense would prominently show a made in the USA notice on their product pages if they could, especially nowadays when everyone is looking for it.
Yeah, that’s bullshit. No American company can own anything in China. They are NOT a free-market economy. American Barbell is full of shit.
Maybe it’s the reverse, a Chinese company that owns American Barbell? I believe that’s the case for Again Faster.

You listed Adamant as selling USA made Troy equipment. Troy doesn’t make equipment in the USA. They “assemble” equipment in the USA. It comes in from China and they just put it together. I want USA made pro-style dumbbells, but it’s nearly impossible to find. Iron grip dumbbells SMELL!

As I noted for them, only their rigs are USA made. They told me this specifically. Check again.
I talked to them on Reddit and they said now only their pull-up rigs are Made in USA. Other racks would be made in China.

I’ve said this in the article and a couple times in the comments, so I’m thinking there’s confusion with terminology? A rig = pull up rig, a type of design that is modular to expand to multiple stations for a whole group doing pull ups, squats, and other movements. If it isn’t the rig design, it’s called a rack, cage, or stand. But just about anything can also be called a rack. Rep’s rig is USA made. Their other racks are not.

Does REP Fitness build their racks with American steel? Or they simply assemble some parts and their steel source is from China? Because I’ve heard they import everything from China, but if they do have some American products I’ll definitely buy from them.
Their rigs are made in the US with US steel, but their other racks are neither.

Also … York makes an Olympic bar that uses “North American Steel,” showing U.S. and Canada manufactures parts.
After some thought, and checking with York, I’m not going to include the York bars here. The steel is USA made, but the bars are assembled in Canada. If it were the reverse, Canadian steel but USA assembled, I would include them. I’m not sure how other people qualify USA made, but that’s my thinking at the moment.
Edit: To clarify, it would have to be a significant part of assembly in the US, more than slapping a logo on it. The idea is that it involves a US factory of some sort in the final stages, not just importing a product and reselling. Even York doesn’t feel like they can justify calling them USA made, so they use different words.
The Missouri Mule Olympic bar made by X-Mark is made in the U.S.A. So is the Blues City bar made by Titan Fitness.

Are Cybex and Hammer Strength still made in the USA given the high prices that they charge new? I love the old Cybex and Hammer Strength machines that I used to use at 24 hour fitness. Is Legend Fitness equipment comparable in quality to the old Cybex and Hammer Strength machines?

Indeed! I have the Hammer Strength adjustable bench made in USA that is fantastic as easy to go from flat to incline to decline easily and solid built. I used their power racks for years in commercial gyms and they blow away Rogue and cheaper ones. Legend Fitness makes USA equipment as does Straydog and Sorinex. All quality and expensive but I prefer USA made.
